This is not the first love letter I've received from Sydney. I received her first love note when she learned that I was not her Primary teacher this year. Tears came to my eyes when I read, "
You are the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life."
That means a lot coming from a seven year old!
We planned for Sydney to come home with us after church two weeks ago. Her mom, Katherine, called the day before to explain that she could not come, because they had family in town to celebrate her birthday. I started cracking up when Katherine told me that Sydney did not want to celebrate her birthday with her family because she'd rather come to my house.
I want to share a little more about Sydney and my relationship with her family. Her Dad's family was in the ward I grew up in. He was a teenager when I was a little girl. Her Aunt Becky was my Sunday School teacher when I was 10 years old. I can honestly say that she was probably one of the best teachers I ever had. She took us on the most fabulous class trips. What is most meaningful to me is that Sydney's grandfather sealed me and Brad in the Atlanta, GA Temple when we were married.
Sydney came home with us after church on Sunday. We had the best time with her. It's humbling knowing that you have earned the respect of a child--and in return, she has enriched my life with her love and friendship.
Sydney did not want me to interrupt her very important Wii game to take a picture. This is so funny. We were playing different sports to determine our Wii fitness age. I was terrible at baseball, and Sydney was squealing with laughter every time I missed. At one point she was laying on the ground kicking her legs up in the air, because she was laughing so hard at me. My Wii fitness age is 65, which is pretty sad. When it was Sydney's turn, she was not doing so great either. Her Wii fitness age is 80, and I really rubbed it in that she did even worse than I did!
Sydney was making bunny ears behind my head, but you can't see it.
I asked Sydney if she had as much fun at our house as she hoped to have.
"Oh, it was so much more fun!"
She's already planning to come again.
We can't wait!
