Santa Claus Came to Town
Every year I tease my children that they better watch out, and they better not cry, they better not pout, and I'm telling you why...
Santa Claus is coming to town!
And he always does!
Deck the Halls with BAUGHS of Holly
We celebrated Christmas Eve with our dear friends, Mike and Betsy Baugh. (Baugh rhymes with open up and say, "Ahh.") It's a real blessing having such good friends, especially when your family is away. We had a fantastic time playing games.
Wii played doubles tennis.
Wii boxed. (Brad knocked me out really good. I got him back today when wii raced, I left him in the dust.)
And...
The highlight of the evening was playing a very competitive game of Bingo. The stakes were high because there were some fabulous gifts for the winners. Every one went home happy.
We are so grateful for our friends having us over for such a special evening.
Before we went to bed, we watched the DVD "Joy to the World" and read from the third chapter of Luke.
It was a wonderful way to end a happy day.

Just That I Dread It
For the sake of her posterity, it is important to document that when asked if she had any special feelings about Christmastime or our family celebration tonight, "Just that I dread it." was Mommom's response.
Of course, we all laughed. We know that she was just teasing. Mommom has a keen sense of humor and knows just how to push our buttons. We celebrated Christmas early this year because Mom, Dad, and Nikki are going to Huntsville to be with Quincy's family.
Papa said, "He enjoyed our spontaneous laughter the most."
We really do have fun when we're together.
Nikki told me her favorite part of our celebration was sitting by me in the restaurant.
Kayleigh and Everett both had the same response:
Opening the Christmas presents!
Eating nut balls is what I loved the most tonight. Mom has been making nut balls since she and Dad were first married. I can remember sitting at the kitchen table when I was about five years old sipping ginger ale and eating those delicious nut balls. It's the perfect combination.
As we were leaving tonight, Mom expressed her love for our Savior. He is the center of all our family celebrations. We are grateful for His humble birth and exemplary life.
Mostly, we are thankful that because of Him, we are an eternal family.

Sing Noel
The sounds of Christmas have always been my favorite. Tonight was Kayleigh's final choral performance. She was granted an opportunity to sing a song with the 7th and 8th grade ensemble. It is a blessing living in the "Bible belt." Somehow, separation of church and state has no bearing on our middle-school chorus. It was a pleasure hearing Christ centered songs; along with some of my favorite traditional Christmas carols.
I wish that everyone could have an opportunity to hear African-American spirituals.
This music is stirring beyond words.
Some of the highlights of the performances were other songs about Hanukkah, a crooning version of Rudolph, and my personal favorite, "Carol of the Bells. "
Tonight's finale was a special arrangement of the chorus singing 23 carols in three minutes! After counting about 11, I lost track because the harmony and descant was so beautiful. I think at one point, the chorus was singing three different songs at the same time.
It was absolutely incredible.
I do have to mention that Cozette was a little rooster because she was not on her best behavior during some of the songs. However, in her defense, I must praise her for being very gracious at the end of every song giving the singers a big round of applause.
It was really funny.

The Christmas Song
A glance at our week in song:
Cozette has a stuffy nose.
Kayleigh and Everett sang in their school's choirs,
And we were pleased from head to toe.
Everybody knows that we have had some recent woes,
But we believe it will be all right.
If we could find our family a new P.P.O.,
It won't be hard to sleep tonight!
We know that Lawnscapes is on its way.
To be blessed with lots of accounts is what we pray.
And, today, my mother even smiled,
When Cozette came over and went a little wild.
And so I'm offering this happy phrase,
My Christmas shopping is done; it's really true.
We're so excited for it to be Christmas day,
And we believe that you are too!

A Season of Joy
Everett surprised us when he expressed his interest in singing in the school chorus. I like to secretly listen to him while driving in the van. I never make a comment. I know he will not sing if he thinks I am listening to him. I have this happy little secret of knowing that Mr. Baseball can carry a tune.
His secret is out now.
Tonight was Everett's Christmas choral performance. The fourth and fifth graders proudly presented, "A Season of Joy."
I thought Mr. Baseball's fans would like to know some of his feelings about this very important event. Please keep in mind that he is a man of few words AND I have to call him Everett since baseball season is over.
Me: Thank you, again, for your time.
Everett: OK.
Me: What made you decide to be in the chorus?
Everett: I thought it would be fun.
Me: Was it hard having to get up at 6:45 in the morning for practice?
Everett: Yes.
Me: Did Mrs. Johnson have you warm up your voice?
Everett: Mrs. Johnson had us sing, "I like ice cream scales." Everett then breaks out singing these scales for me. It was very amusing.
Me: That is very nice. Did you have a favorite song tonight?
Everett: Yes. The Santa Claus Rock.
Me: Will you sing some of the lyrics for me again?
Me: Oh, I loved that song.
Everett: Did you see the principal doing the twist?.
Me: Yes, that was great. Do you want to know my favorite song?
Everett: Oh, Yeah...
Me: "Yankee Doodle Santa." I loved the line that said, " Yankee doodle came to town a riding on a reindeer. Santa's a Yankee doodle boy." Do you think Santa Claus is really patriotic?
Everett: (smiles sheepishly) Yes, because he wears red and white.
Me: Do you think we could sing a duet together?
Everett: Hmm. I guess.
Me: In church?
Everett: NO WAY!
I went too far on that one.
Me: What was the best thing about tonight?
Everett: Going to Dairy Queen to get a treat after the concert was over.
Everett: Good night, Mom.
I guess the interview is over.
Christmastime is a season of joy!

Up on the Table Top
Up on the table, we all paused.
Cozette is sitting and thinks we'll applause,
"Please get down," I will say.
But climbing on the table brings Cozette joy every day.
Ho, ho, ho!
Please don't go.
Ho, ho, ho!
Please don't go.
Up on the table,
Click, click, click.
And playing in the chimney isn't to become your new trick!

Christmas Cookies
Baking Christmas cookies is a favorite holiday treat. It was cold and dreary today. Brad, Kayleigh, and Cozette woke up sick, so I decided to make some sugar cookies to cheer us up. Kayleigh is at the perfect age where she loves to help and immediately perked up, so she could assist me. There is something nostalgic about baking cookies with Christmas carols playing in the background. I have fond memories of helping my Mom with the Christmas baking. I hope that Kayleigh will have happy memories too.
Brad and Everett are the most excellent taste testers.
The verdict: two thumbs up.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
Thou tree most fair and lovely!
The sight of thee at Christmastide
Spreads hope and gladness far and wide
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree
Thou tree most fair and lovely!
The most wonderful time of year has arrived. I love everything about Christmastime except for one little thing; buying the Christmas tree. Finding the perfect Christmas tree is such a difficult task. (and then there is the tedious task of stringing the lights perfectly.) Last night, Mommom and Papa came with us to Lowe's to buy their Christmas tree too. It was bitterly cold and the selection of trees was the most pitiful I have seen in years. Poor Brad and Papa, they must have pulled out about 20 trees for us to approve. We were shivering in the cold and Brad's hands looked like they were going to fall off.
"Are we having fun yet?" just about describes how we felt.
Everett informed us that he had to go to the little boys room. After looking at a few more trees, we gave up and went inside to get warm. We were waiting for Brad and Everett to return, so we could go to Home Depot to try and find a Christmas tree there.
Guess where we were waiting for them?
Right by the artificial Christmas tree section.
Those trees were so lovely.
We all ended up bringing one of those lovely Christmas trees home.
Tonight Mommom called and asked to speak with Everett. After they hung up, I asked him what they talked about.
"She called to say thank you to me for having to go to the bathroom last night."
I started to laugh. We can all thank Everett for solving our Christmas tree dilemma.
Now, I truly love everything about Christmastime!

Thanksgiving Top 10
The 10 best things about our Thanksgiving trip to Columbia:
10. Sleeping in late.
I never thought I would see the day when I thought sleeping in until 8:45 would seem so luxurious. Every one knows that I can easily sleep until noon. Little Cozette has changed that for me. It really was nice to sleep in until 8:45 without any alarms disturbing us.
9. Delicious Food.
Kayleigh starts talking about Grandma's home cookin' days before we actually arrive. It is a favorite family topic as we drive towards Columbia. We all hope she prepares our favorites. Brad usually calls and asks what she has prepared for us. I especially look forward to having a selection of at least six drinks to choose from at each meal. I never choose water because I am so healthy; and she always has a selection of about four or five desserts. It's paradise for a dessert loving person like me!
8. South Carolina State Museum.
We usually have many fun outings while visiting Bill and Shirley. A favorite spot for Kayleigh and Everett is the museum. I enjoy it too. It's fun learning unique facts about South Carolina's history. This year I discovered the answer to something I have always wondered.
What is the difference between a sweet potato and a yam? ( I thought a yam was a canned sweet potato)
Nothing.
Plantation owners owned slaves from many African nations. Communication was difficult due to the many different languages spoken. As the slaves attempted to speak to one another, a new language called "Gullah" was created combining these native languages. Some of the words derived from this language are okra, yam, and tote.
7. Cozette being the center of attention.
Let me just say that she really did put on her very best tricks for every one. We all thought we were going to eat her up!
6. The Flight Deck.
This is a unique restaurant that is centered around airplanes. I thought it was quite clever that the steak entrees were listed under "the Beef-52's." There is a game room which made all the kiddos go crazy with excitement and the highlight was watching Cozette climbing up the Ski Ball game.
5. The Carousel.
Cozette and I rode our very first merry-go-round. She also rode it with her Daddy and was so cute as she waved to all of us. I was secretly pleased that Kayleigh, Everett, and Mary-Faith were just as excited to ride and didn't feel they were too big for it!
4. "Total."
This is our new family expression. A favorite family activity is playing games. Scattergories is our game of choice. Brad and Everett are usually on the same team and the answers they come up with are more than amusing and usually make us laugh hysterically. We played a round that the letter was "T" and the category was, "something you shout."
My answer was, "that is not nice." ( a very reasonable answer.)
Brad and Everett's answer was "TOTAL." It was hilarious to see them shout "TOTAL." We argued that they did not give a real answer but it made us laugh so much that we agreed to give them a point.
So now, we will say "total" to each other while we pass each other in the halls at church. I think it means we are doing totally great.
Even Shirley and Barbara were saying it to each other!
3. Straightening Mary-Faith's hair.
I thought it would be fun to see how her lovely curly hair would look straight. We were not expecting how beautiful it was going to look. It was worth it to see her Mom's and Shirley's reaction.
2. Celebrating Thanksgiving.
We have been blessed with so much. We loved being with Bill and Shirley, Barbara and Mary-Faith.
1. Bill's homemade pecan pie.
It's really embarrassing when I think about how much of it I ate. At dinner last night, when I finished off the last piece, I asked Bill and Shirley if they even got a piece. They were so kind and assured me they did get a piece. But, that was all they got. I know that I ate about 3/4 of that pecan pie. It was the best I have ever eaten.
We really did have a fantastic time.

The Chosen One
Cozette has decided that Grandpa Bill is the chosen one!
I sincerely prayed that Cozette would be gracious to all of the family. I never can tell who she will let hold her. The last time we were with Bill and Shirley was on Cozette's birthday in August, so it has been a few months since we last saw them. I didn't want Cozette to be shy.
Cozette greeted Bill and Shirley like they were old friends!
It is the Simpson family tradition for Bill to prepare the Thanksgiving dinner. When we arrived, I took Cozette to the kitchen to see Grandpa Bill. He was very busy sauteing the celery and onions for the dressing. It only took a few minutes for Cozette to decide that she wanted Bill to hold her. In fact, she was a little disruptive to the schedule and Shirley had to take over. We would put Cozette down and then she go back to Bill, put her arms up in the air and say, "Uh."
Translation: "Please pick me up, Grandpa!"
Bill was perfectly happy to oblige her.
And for the past day, Cozette has been partial to Grandpa Bill. It pleases all of us to see her want to go to her Grandpa. Shirley's face beams with joy as she watches Bill hold Cozette. Brad and I especially love it because it gives us a tiny break.
I know that being the chosen one can really make you tired.
I am hoping that Bill will not figure that out anytime soon!

I Feel Fabulous
Isn't it wonderful to be fabulous? Funny, I did not feel so fabulous today as I went about my normal routine. My dear sister, Quincy, nominated me for a fabulous award. I feel it is the least I can do to nominate five bloggers who I think are fabulous.
Hmm...I hope I can come up with five.
Do five people even read my blog?
Here are the rules for receiving the fabulous award:
1. You have to pass it on to 5 other fabulous blogs in a post.
2. You have to list 5 of your fabulous addictions in the post.
3. You must copy and paste the rules and the instructions below in the post.
Instructions:
On your post of receiving this award, make sure you include the person that gave you the award and link it back to them. When you post your five winners, make sure you link them as well. To add the award to your post, simply right-click, save image, then "add image" it in your post as a picture so your winners can save it as well. To add it to your sidebar, add the "picture" gadget. Also, don't forget to let your winners know they won an award from you by emailing them or leaving a comment on their blog.
Five Fabulous Addictions:
1. Eating gummy bears.
2. Having Kayleigh scratch my back.
3. Smooching Cozette.
4. Going to QT for special fountain drinks with Kayleigh and Everett.
5. Calling Brad 10 times a day.
And the fabulous winners are:
1. Meredith: The Simpson Crew (She is my most fabulous sister-in-law who I consider to be my go-to person for anything crafty and technical. She can answer any question. I highly recommend her.)
2. Kayleigh: Kayleigh Bug Simpson (She is my fabulous daughter whom I love with all of my heart. She is my best companion.)
3. Mary-Faith: Mary-Faith Martinez ( She is my fabulous niece who is so faithful at commenting on my blog.)
4. Rachel: The Shumway family (She is my fabulous new friend, who just happens to have a fabulous daughter who is exactly Cozette's age.)
5. Natalie: The Kipper Family (Another fabulous friend who also has a fabulous son that happens to be Cozette's age. We have a fabulously fun play group.)
Being fabulous is so much fun!
I must admit, I would have never dreamed that I would actually participate in something like this!
Warning: CAT-5
"Cozette sure has a lot of power," are Brad's exact words.
Hurricane Cozette fiercely blows through our home everyday. There is no end to her curious destruction.
She loves to get on top of the kitchen table. I have to take her off of it about 30 times a day. She likes to get really quiet when she is in the living room. She has figured out how to open the buffet and pulls everything out. She loves the computer, and I fear she is going to break it. She has figured out how to climb onto the chair and bang the keyboard.
I think she is trying to blog.
She pulls drawers out and throws our clothes over her shoulders. She's famous for unfolding the clean clothes. She climbs on top of the dish washer. She takes the clean silverware and runs with it. She takes the batteries out of the remote control and tries to eat them. And last but not least, she likes to unroll the toilet paper.
There is always that one time that I forget to close the bathroom door.
We did learn very quickly and have been vigilant about not forgetting to keep the toilet lids down.
Did I mention that she likes to play with the toilet bowl water?
Kayleigh and Everett recently asked if they were this powerful when they were little. I tried to remember and came to the conclusion that Kayleigh was about a CAT-3 and Everett was a strong CAT-4.
I think that secretly pleased him.
Our little Cozette keeps us hopping. She recently withstood a severe fall. I found her at the bottom of the stairs on the hard wood. I scooped her up and took the pacifier out of her mouth to check if she was bleeding. Her mouth was fine, but then I noticed drops of blood coming down her face and it was in her eyes. We both had blood all down the front of us. She had gashed the top of her head. We are very thankful that she is just fine and she did not have to have stitches.
I recently heard on the news that Hurricane season is over.
I sighed.
I think at my house it is just beginning.

Gift Exchange
who said it was SCARY that I was making a craft,
Please try not to cry since you will not be getting one!
(Unless you humbly repent!)
Since I am the coolest aunt in the world, I decided to make Zoe and Kaija a cute craft as part of their Christmas presents. Our family celebrated Thanksgiving early, and the cousins exchanged gifts over the weekend, because we will not see each other again before Christmas. I have quite a bit of scrapbook paper left over from Kayleigh's birthday party and decided to put it to good use. My friend gave me a great idea.
I actually made them journals.
My entire family was very impressed with my craftiness.
The children had a wonderful time exchanging presents. Kayleigh received her first bottle of perfume; Hailey by Aeropostale. Kayleigh loves that store. We were actually in there the other day smelling the lovely perfume. I will try not to sneak using it! Everett received a Rubik's Cube. (so, Kirk went and bought one for himself too!) I have not decided who enjoyed trying to solve it more: Everett or Kirk?
Kirk, naturally being inquisitive, researched how to solve it. He solved the Rubik's cube about 11 times over the weekend. He and Everett spent hours trying to solve it. I guess if Kirk is going to solve the energy crisis, the least he can do is solve a little Rubik's cube!
How can I forget little Cozy and baby Susie? Cozette received some fantastic new books and Susie received two very cute headbands.
Who knows?
I just might make some more crafts very soon!

Keeping the Old
Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver and the other is gold.
A circle is round, it has no end.
That's how long I will be your friend.
There's an inextricable bond that ties childhood friends together. No matter how many years pass, you seem to pick-up right where you left off. It is a bond that even time cannot touch.
I am blessed to have such friends.
Jori and Carrie came to see me on Friday. The last time the three of us were together was four years ago when Jori was married in the Atlanta temple. Jori lives about 30 minutes from me, but Carrie lives in Chicago. It was wonderful for us to see Carrie again. Our afternoon was spent catching-up and reminiscing on the good old days. Some of my happiest and funniest memories happened when we were together. It was great to see these two ladies that I love so dearly.
Our reunion was far too short.

Who Is It?
Brad told me to blog this.
Around noon today, Brad called to check in with me. I had just put Cozette down for her nap and came downstairs to finish a craft project when the phone rang. This is how our conversation went:
Brad: Hey love, how's it going?
Me: Good. I just put Cozette down for her nap. How are you?
We continue to talk for a few minutes when all of a sudden the door knob started to turn!
Me: Um, Brad I think the door knob is turning. Are you home? ( I asked because sometimes he will come home for a quick break if he is on this side of town. I thought he may be surprising me.)
Brad: What? No, I'm in my car.
Me: Brad, someone is turning the door knob!
Brad: Are you sure?
I then walk towards the front window to look out. I see no one.
The door knob is still turning back and forth like someone is trying to get in. I am distressed now.
Me: Brad, someone is trying to get in!
I then walk towards the front door to look out the peep hole, I couldn't see anybody but the door knob is still being turned and then there was a loud knock.
Brad: Jeannie, is everything OK?
Me: No! Oh my Lands... Who is it? WHO IS IT? I was very alarmed.
It's me, Everett.
I then open the door.
Me: Oh my lands, Brad. I TOTALLY forgot. Today is early release.
Brad: Jeannie!! He said this with relief and like I was a crazy woman.
Everett: Mom, are you OK?
Me: No, I thought you were a robber trying to get in.
Everett starts to laugh really hard and looks at me like I'm nuts. All of the commotion wakes Cozette up.
Brad: Bye-bye Jeannie.
Me: Brad, I really was scared. I have to go get Cozette. Sorry, I scared you.
Brad: I could tell you were scared.
Then we both start to laugh really hard.
Me and Brad at the same time: Bye-bye.
The End.
I must be losing it.

Amen
She also decided to put her pacifier in the yogurt.
Eating lunch together is a special time of day for little Cozette and me. I make every effort to sit at the table and eat with her. We always begin our lunch with a prayer. I love teaching my children how to pray. Cozette and I go through the steps daily.
"Cozette, let's fold our arms," I begin.
She has not done this yet.
We then offer our prayer.
Then we close it, "In the name of Jesus Christ."
Yesterday, after I said Amen, she repeated me.
"A-yih."
I was very surprised.
"Oh! Cozette, you said Amen, you are such a big girl." I praised her. "Will you say Amen again?"
"A-yih."
Today Cozette said Amen again. This time she said it louder and then laughed at herself. I know she was pleased that she repeated me. Yesterday was a little milestone for Cozette and a special reminder to me of how important it is to teach the gospel to my children.
Amen!

STRIKE!
Mr. Baseball appears to have bowled a gutter ball.
This is so sad, but I must tell what happened next.
Brad had not planned to bowl. He had a very busy Saturday working. He had enough time to stay about an hour. Kayleigh tired of bowling, so Brad and I finished the game for her. Brad did not have bowling shoes on. He asked the attendant if he could bowl wearing his tennis shoes. She hesitated, then said he could.
Brad got the bowling ball, assumed his bowling position, and Kayleigh, Everett, and I watched with anticipation.
We were not prepared for what happened next.
Brad released the bowling ball. Then it looked like he lost his footing. I watched with fright as Brad's legs literally went out from under him flying up in the air as he crashed onto his bottom.
I screamed, Everett's face went white, and Kayleigh gasped.
What is amazing is that Brad got up like nothing had happened and had a big smile on his face.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern.
"I'm fine, I guess I lost my footing." Brad assured me. He then took Cozette.
After a few minutes had passed, Everett still seemed upset. "Mommy, that hurt my heart when Daddy fell."
That little boy loves his Daddy!
We were able to laugh about it later that night because Brad didn't get hurt.
The trophy ceremony is so much fun. The coach talks about each boy and their accomplishments for the season. Every boy has an opportunity to shine.
"This boy has ONE HOT BAT. He is willing to play any position I assign him, and he does so with a wonderful attitude. I can always count on him to do his best," Everett's coach started to say. Immediately all of the boys started pointing at Everett. His coach continued, " He is an excellent ball player and a great example to his teammates."
I was beaming and trying my hardest not to feel prideful!
Now that baseball season is over, I am looking forward to basketball season.
I can't wait to interview Mr. Basketball!

Declaration of Independence
The days and weeks following Cozette's birth are somewhat of a blur. Newborns, as precious as they are, are overwhelming. It is easy to wish these days away in hopes of getting more sleep. I remember entertaining these thoughts once and then feeling a sharp impression.
These days are fleeting. Do not wish them away.
I changed my attitude very quickly.
The irony is this has made time even more fleeting. It is now 14 months later and I wonder where the time has gone to? Cozette is no longer a little baby.
She is one independent little toddler!
She will only eat her food if I allow her to touch it and get her hands sticky. She likes to drop her food on the floor. I really do try not to laugh. When Brad is home, she wants nothing to do with me. She tries to run away when it's time to dress her. She makes a million messes a day. Her favorite activity is destroying Kayleigh's and Everett's rooms. Everett even had tears the other day when he forgot to close his bedroom door and found his Risk game opened and all 500 pieces of it scattered on his floor. She refuses to sit through Sacrament meeting. She LOVES the cell phone and puts it to her ear like she is talking on it.
She did say, "cracker" yesterday at play group. "Ahh-er." Two of my friends also heard her and it was a delightful moment for me. She is saying, "ma-ma" more and more too. She loves to stomp her feet and clap her hands to the beat of the music.
I pray that she won't grow up any time soon!

The Glad Game
If ever there was a day to play "the glad game" it would be today. I have been playing this game since I was 11 years old. The rules for playing are simple.
You can find something to be glad about in every experience; no matter how sad you are.
Today, I am sad over the results of this election and the direction this country will be going:
Less freedom.
Bigger government.
Decline of morality.
Higher taxes.
Socialized medicine.
Greater threat of terrorism.
However, I can still be glad!
I am grateful to know that Heavenly Father is in charge. I am grateful that I can study and know that certain things will happen in the last days and that I can recognize these signs.
"... we may expect the insatiable desire to get something for nothing and result in further class legislation and more socialistic experiments by governments. "(Mormon Doctrine p. 729 Signs of the Times)
I am grateful to know that if I prepare, I will not fear.
I already feel better.

Right To Vote
There is so much yet to be done."
Susan B. Anthony
Today I voted.
I am thankful for the right to vote.
Brad and I had planned to spend at least three hours in line. I carefully planned my morning so I could leave Cozette sleeping. Kayleigh and Everett watched her while I was away. Brad went about 30 minutes before I did and held my place in line. I am amazed that I was only gone for about 55 minutes. I returned home with Cozette still sleeping.
Kayleigh and Everett had mock elections at their schools yesterday. Sadly, Obama won both elections.
I guess we will all be on pins and needles for the rest of the day.
Thank you Susan B. Anthony.

We Wish You a Merry Halloween
What is your favorite thing about Halloween? It was not difficult for Kayleigh and Everett to answer my question. Their list of favorites included the following:
Candy.
Going from door to door and saying,"Trick or Treat."
Dressing up.
Candy.
Scaring people.
Haunted houses.
Candy.
And their most favorite part of Halloween is...
Trading and sorting the candy.
I love to see Kayleigh and Everett pour their loot on the floor and start bargaining to get their favorites from each other. This year was especially entertaining because Cozette went wild. She was falling into the candy, throwing it, and trying to eat it through the packaging. We laughed until our sides ached. Cozette really likes M&M's. By the end of the night, all of the candy is put into plastic baggies and sorted according to the type of candy it is.
My favorite thing about Halloween is going to Mommom and Papa's house. I know that they are waiting for Kayleigh and Everett with Halloween treats. We love to see their excitement over their costumes. This year Everett dressed up as a vampire for the ward Halloween party. He went as Mr. Baseball on Halloween night. Cozette was so cute holding her Halloween pumpkin. She loved wearing her Halloween Tu Tu and was very prissy in it.
I must share that I made Kayleigh and Cozette's Tu Tu's.
Kayleigh and Everett had two friends come with them trick-or-treating this year. Savannah and Alyssa made the evening even more fun for them. They decided to sing a little song at some of the doors:
We wish you a merry Halloween,
We wish you a merry Halloween,
So trick- or- treat!
Even Mr. Baseball was singing.
The neighbors really liked it.
And I really do hope everyone had a Merry Halloween.

Little Black Birds
Inside this door, live three very special children. My Grandma Lou used to say, "Every old crow thinks hers is the blackest." I believe all mothers are given that divine spark to think her own children are the the most wonderful and beautiful. It seems two of my children are sprouting wings. They stay busy with school and their various activities. It makes me feel that I really am an "old crow."
Today was our Primary Program at church. I was somewhat sad that Kayleigh was not participating this year. I asked her if she was sad not to be up there with her friends. She was very quick to assure me, "No! I like being in Young Women."
Of course she does, what was I thinking?
All of a sudden she has a very busy social life. I really miss her while she is away from me. I know that I have to start getting used to it.
This is only the beginning...
Everett aka "Mr. Baseball" just finished his baseball season. He and his Daddy are already talking about spring ball. Maybe, we should get through basketball season first! We are pleased that Everett's team finished the season as co-championship winners. He received the game ball the last game because he hit a double, a triple, and two RBI's. He was flying high on Saturday.
And my throat hurts today from all the cheering!
For the past nine years, Brad and Everett have been a little couple. They are joined at the hip. They would spend all day playing sports if time allowed it. It makes me laugh that all of a sudden they have an ardent tag along. Cozette loves to be outside and she insists on being with her Daddy and brother.
"Welcome to your new life!" I announced recently as Everett and Brad tried to get me to bring her in, so they could throw just a few pitches. Cozette had absolutely no part of that.
Finally, Cozette is saying, "Ma Ma Ma." She also loves to have her hair brushed, (the little bit she has) and she is really good at fake coughing for attention.
I am so thankful for my little black birds.

Bonnet Beauties
Nothing is cuter than a baby wearing a bonnet. I remember all of us laughing at how darling we thought Cozette was in this bonnet. We desperately tried to awaken her for this picture, but it was to no avail. Quincy posted Susie in the same bonnet on her blog to lift our spirits. I thought it would be fun to post these two beauties wearing the same bonnet.
Tonight, I am going to go to sleep with a smile on my face.

Mr. Baseball
It isn't everyday that you have a real baseball star living with you. Since I have a real baseball star living in my house, I thought I would take a moment to interview him. I am happy that he was gracious enough to take the time from his busy baseball schedule to oblige me.
Here it goes:
Me: Thank you, Mr. Baseball, for speaking with me tonight.
Mr. Baseball: You are welcome.
Me: How are you tonight?
Mr. Baseball: I am good.
Me: What's your favorite thing about baseball?
Mr. Baseball: Hitting.
Me: Why?
Mr. Baseball: I like to connect with the ball and see how far it goes.
Me: Do you always talk this much?
Mr. Baseball: Does not answer my question but tries to suppress his smile.
Me: How many home runs have you hit?
Mr Baseball: Hmm... about 10. His Daddy (who is eaves dropping on this very important interview) questions if this is accurate. Mr. Baseball assures me this is the correct number.
Me: What position do you play?
Mr. Baseball: I play short stop, center field, second base, and I pitch.
Me: Do you like for people to cheer for you when you are up to bat?
Mr. Baseball: Yes, it makes me want to do my best.
Me: Does your Mommy cheer loud for you?
Mr. Baseball: YES.
Me: Does it make you happy?
Mr. Baseball: YES!
Me: What does she cheer?
Mr Baseball: Woo Hoo, Go Everett! Good eye, Good eye!
Me: How many hours has your Daddy spent practicing with and coaching you?
Mr. Baseball: About 2,ooo hours.
Me: Who is your favorite baseball team?
Mr. Baseball: Boston Red Sox. Like Father like Son.
Me: Any last words or advice to anyone who wants to play baseball?
Mr. Baseball: Just do the best you can. Never give up and play lots of baseball.
Me: That's excellent advice. Tell me about your Mommy.
Mr. Baseball: (Starts to laugh.) She's nice. She helps me. She cooks for me. She watches over me and she takes care of me.
Me: Thank you, Mr. Baseball.
Mr. Baseball: You are welcome.
Me: One last question. Is it hard being so handsome?
Mr. Baseball: (Smiles and looks down.) Hmm... No.
Me: Will you please let this interviewer give you a kiss?
Mr. Baseball: No. Oh... OK.
Me: Smooch! Thank you for your time. Good luck this Thursday when you play in your very important tournament game.
Mr. Baseball: Thanks, Can I go now?
